Our evening anchorage

We are getting our share of wildlife sightings. Tonight's anchorage is a river bend, off the main Intracoastal. Osprey nests are a common sight all along the waterway at this time of year. They love to build their nests right on the channel markers which means we can get a really good look at them. Snowy white egrets abound, preferring to roost in groups, so that the trees they are in look to be in full bloom with dinner plate sized flowers. Chris spotted a creature setting off from the shore coming to visit us. It was a very determined snake, swimming with his head up like a periscope, wanting to check out the new island that had appeared in his patch. Having personal knowledge of 3 separate boats that were boarded by snakes I wasn't taking any chances.And definitely not in Water Moccasin country! Chris was dispatched with the boat hook and had to fend the snake off as it circled the whole boat before concluding we weren't going to let him on! (we slept with the hatches shut that night). To cap off the evening, our old headache, a raccoon, walked across the marsh on some urgent personal business.
